HONOLULU — The former state budget director has a new job with the University of Hawaii.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports Kalbert Young has been hired by regents as the chief operating officer and vice president for budget and finance.

As the budget director for former Gov. Neil Abercrombie, Young oversaw the state’s $10 billion operating budget and developed long-term financial strategies.

Before taking the state budget director’s post, he was director of finance for Maui County for six years.
